Marketing & Communication Plan Overview

This is a robust 7 step marketing and communication template designed to support schools with parent satisfaction, retention, and enrollment growth. This plan includes tools and strategy to communicate what sets your school apart through the lens of social and emotional learning.

With proactive, targeted communication your school can bridge the knowledge and perception gap of parents.

This 7 step marketing and communication template is designed for schools to help them effectively tell their story to their community. Your story is really highlighting who you are as a school, and the great things you offer that meet the needs of parents and students but have not been clearly and consistently communicated. Social and emotional learning has always been important and now has become vital for student success and it’s what parents are asking for.

Who are you?

Many of you know your Mission and Vision and maybe even your core value statements. Some of you might have them at top of mind at all times. Others may have to dust them off or start from scratch. Wherever you are in this process, this is where you need to start.

This is about defining who you are as a school and what you already offer.

Who are your people?

Your community is your audience. They are the people that will join and support your school. You may have several “audiences” in your community. It’s important to assess and summarize who they are in order to speak to their specific needs.

What makes you unique?

The offering and attributes that set your school apart from other education options. These are things parents, donors, and educators care about. Consider what parents are looking for when selecting a school. What do you offer that meets these needs?

What’s your story?

So far, you’ve figured out who you are, what makes you unique, and who are your people. The next step is to connect your school to your people by defining your key messages you want to communicate about your school.

Why your story matters. Your story is what will compel your audience to engage, stay engaged, and invite others to join you. It’s important that your story is clear, easy to understand, and relevant to your audiences’ real and felt needs. When you consistently share your story, it creates a unified language that is easy to remember and retell.

Where can you tell your story?

You will start by sharing your story with your internal audience consistently and regularly to set the tone for your school – they will naturally re-tell your story over and over to each other and then to your external audience. Next, you will share your story creatively and consistently with your external audiences through various mediums. Let’s define your audiences and where and how you can share your story.

What worked? What didn’t work?

On a consistent and regular basis you are asking:

  1. What’s working?

  2. What’s not working?

  3. What adjustments need to be made?
