EANS Funding Overview

Eans 2024 update

Emergency Assistance to Non-Public Schools (EANS) can provide funding for social-emotional character development programs. Did you know you could still use any remaining EANS funds through September 2024?

Did you know?

The purpose of the EANS program is to provide services or assistance to eligible non-public schools to address educational disruptions caused by COVID-19. The Department will award EANS funds by formula to each Governor with an approved Certification and Agreement.

Did you know you could still use any remaining EANS funds through September 2024? In addition, your state may be reallocating unused EANS funds into GEER funding or other grants that are still accessible to you! While the pandemic has been put on the back burner for school administrators, its impact on student academic achievement lingers four years later.

According to the 2022  Nation’s Report Card, third reading scores experienced the largest decline since 1990 and the first-ever decline in math. While the federal government has invested billions in schools since 2020, today, research shows student performance across grade levels is well below pre-pandemic testing.

Research suggests that Social-Emotional programming is an important component in a robust recovery plan to combat learning loss and provide holistic support to students, teachers, and communities.

Fortunately, non-public schools have until September 2024 to continue accessing academic services under the second round of the Emergency Assistance to Non-Public Schools Program (ARP EANS). Friendzy is your partner in addressing your student’s social-emotional character development (SECD) needs while equipping teachers with tools and resources to help them heal and meet their academic potential.

Implementing the Friendzy program can help schools overcome learning loss by:

  • Re-building a solid foundation for academic success and increasing student attendance by aiding in the establishment of trusting relationships between students and teachers.

  • Explicit SECD lessons have been proven to increase engagement and excitement in the classroom, further accelerate academic success by improving critical thinking and problem-solving skills, bolster learning confidence, teach resilience, and provide a framework for goal-setting strategies.

  • Supporting teachers with professional development that covers Social-Emotional Character Development competencies, trauma-sensitive practices, and equity-centered strategies.

  • Providing family support resources that equip and engage families as they support their emotional health and that of their children.

  • Flexible delivery of resources and support for teachers, students, and families, including high-quality remote learning supplements and resources and ongoing consultation on maximizing student engagement within remote and hybrid learning environments.

  • Friendzy expands and improves Tier 1 instruction to help all students catch up academically and heal socially and emotionally.

Three of the thirteen designated areas where EANS funds can be applied are dedicated specifically to addressing learning loss via direct services for teachers and students.

  • Redeveloping instructional plans for remote or hybrid learning or addressing learning loss

  • Initiating and maintaining education and support services or assistance for remote or hybrid learning or addressing learning loss

  • Staff Training / Professional Development

The Friendzy program component structure allows all of our ideologically neutral components to be eligible for many forms of Federal funding, including EANS. Friendzy will complement the whole-student and biblically based structures already in place while providing the scaffolding teachers, students, and communities need to heal from the social and emotional effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
