Unlocking Equitable Services White Paper
We know it’s a mouthful! Before we get into the how of accessing equitable services for social-emotional development, let’s dive into a quick history lesson:
Since 1965, non-public schools have participated in federal education programs.
Today there are two major pieces of federal legislation that provide equitable services for educational programs available to private and religious schools:
Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
In this guide we are going to narrow in on the Every Student Succeeds Act as well as more recent complementary funding called the Stronger Connections Grant as well as Emergency Assistance for Non-Public Schools (EANS).
Types of equitable services reviewed in this white paper:
Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
Title IV
Stronger Connections Grant
Emergency Assistance to Non-Public Schools (EANS)
In addition to reviewing the type of equitable services available for non-public schools, this white paper will also cover:
Understanding steps and timelines
Intent to participate
Determining eligibility
Sample needs assessment
LEA Contracts Vendor Services
Is it worth it?
This may seem like a lot. But don’t worry, we are here to help! Once you go through the process, it will all make a lot more sense. And as you get to know your LEA, and develop a relationship, working together will become more and more smooth. Remember, this is all about your students' and teachers’ success—we’re all on the same team!
Your best bet is to become as much of an expert in federal programs as you can. Be informed and be prepared. Know the needs of your students and the best programs to meet those needs. If everyone puts the needs of students—and their teachers—first, equitable services, with Friendzy as your partner, will be a huge success!
