Research supporting Social and Emotional Learning as a necessary element of a well-rounded education is overwhelming and influential organizations have taken notice. FRIENDZY FUNDING GUIDE OVERVIEW HANDOUT
What: The majority of government funding for Social and Emotional Learning programs, for both public and private schools, is allocated through the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). ESSA is designed to ensure that all children receive a quality education, and gives states a large say in how school’s will specifically ensure the achievement of disadvantaged students. How: Every fiscal year, the approved ESSA funds are allocated to states based on predetermined formulas. Both State Education Agencies (SEAs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) work together to allocate funds to the schools (public, charter and private) who demonstrate needs for specific federal program funding.
