UPDATE: THE CARES ACT CAN HELP PAY FOR THE FRIENDZY SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING PROGRAM IN 2020/2021

The CARES Act Stimulus bill, recently passed by congress in response to COVID-19, has two main provisions designed to provide direct relief to Primary and Secondary Schools in the U.S. These provisions may be used to support your school in funding components of the Friendzy: Social and Emotional Learning program. Research supporting Social and Emotional Learning as a necessary element of a well-rounded education is overwhelming and influential organizations have taken notice. From the Federal and local Government, to national and local non-profit organizations—Billions of dollars are being allocated towards Social and Emotional Learning programs like Friendzy.

What: The majority of government funding for Social and Emotional Learning programs, for both public and private schools, is allocated through the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). ESSA is designed to ensure that all children receive a quality education, and gives states a large say in how school’s will specifically ensure the achievement of disadvantaged students. How: Every fiscal year, the approved ESSA funds are allocated to states based on predetermined formulas. Both State Education Agencies (SEAs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) work together to allocate funds to the schools (public, charter and private) who demonstrate needs for specific federal program funding.  Read more about the role of SEAs and LEAs in dispersing ESSA funds.
