PAIRING FRIENDZY WITH VIRTUES + SAINTS
Social-emotional learning is vital for students of all ages. As Catholic educators we have the unique opportunity to support students’ in developing social, emotional and character development skills by engaging them in conversations that build emotional literacy through virtues and Saints.
Take time to pair virtues and Saints with each month's Friendzy Unit. See fillable outline below.
We are all called as Catholics to live a virtuous life. Virtues can be integrated into Friendzy lessons by pairing virtues with the Friendzy Monthly Catchphrase. Once you identify the virtues that coincide with the Catchphrase you can fold them into the Friendzy lessons. A virtue becomes a teaching point within the Friendzy lesson. When we choose to live a life of virtue, we experience the many graces of God and can be a disciple of Christ to those around us. When we practice living out our virtues, we equip our students to share God’s love with classmates and all those they encounter.
“The goal of Catholic education is heaven, but knowledge alone will not get us there! Virtues in practice help students live out the faith in their daily lives.”
Nashville Dominicans Virtue in Practice
Saints are a model of how to live virtuous lives. Saints pair with Friendzy as a daily reinforcement opportunity to continue the conversation on the explicit social, emotional, and character development skills. Saints are a model of how students can apply these skills in their own lives. During daily reinforcement time, take 5-15 minutes to consider the life of a Saint and ask the following questions:
What are THREE things you learned through the life of the Saint and their story?
What are TWO things you wonder about this Saint?
What is ONE action you live out this week from what you have learned?
