Week 6: Coloring Page & Conversation Activity
SHARE & PRACTICE THE CATCHPHRASE ///
A catchphrase is a concept kids can easily remember. It helps them catch onto a big idea to impact how they think and act positively, and then they can toss it out for others to grab onto, too!
THIS WEEK’S FRIENDZY CATCHPHRASE /// We Are In This Together
START COLORING ///
Print out these coloring cards for your child to color and decorate it. Hang it in your front window to spread the encouragement to neighbors or delivery people who pass by.
LISTEN WHILE COLORING ///
As you color, listen to these stories about teamwork and helping others.
CONVERSATION K-5 ///
At the end of Stone Soup, the villagers declare that “Sharing makes us all richer.” Do you agree? Why or why not?
What are some “Ingredients” that you can offer to your community to help bring unity and remind those around you that we are in this together?
Have you ever felt alone and distrusting of others like the villagers at the beginning of Stone Soup? If so, what did those around you do to remind you that you were not alone?
CONVERSATION 6-8 ///
Have you witnessed any inspiring stories like this in your own community of people coming together to help each other?
What are ways that you can encourage your friends, family, and community and remind them that we are all in this together? (don’t forget to share your ideas using the #friendzyinthewild hashtag!)
Have you felt disconnected from your community while out of school? If so, what are some creative ways that you can continue cultivating your friendships outside of school?
COLORING CAN LOWER OUR STRESS LEVELS ///
When we draw and color, our brains relax. Psychologist Gloria Martinez Ayala noticed that we activate both sides of our brain hemispheres when we color. This type of dual brain function is a great way to manage stress. Ayala also clarified that the drawing process incorporates the areas of the cerebral cortex involved in vision and fine motor skills. The brain “relaxation” that it provides lowers the activity of the amygdala, an essential part of our brain involved in controlling emotion that is affected by stress. Our bodies benefit from coloring and drawing.
