Yes I Can: Growth Mindset Activity
This activity will create spaces for kids to practice a growth mindset. Our brains are like a muscle; each time we take on a challenge, whether academically, socially, emotionally, or physically, our brains get a workout. When we do something that is hard, and we struggle through it, our mindset grows.
So often, we focus on what we can’t do instead of what we can do. Having a growth mindset is a powerful skill to develop. When kids realize they can practice a skill and get better, it can shift the way they think about failure and success. This simple activity will allow students to think about the way they think. It will help them sort out the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.
A growth mindset means you believe your intelligence, talents, and abilities can improve with effort.
A fixed mindset is when you think your intelligence, talents, and abilities are fixed and won’t change.
Example:
Fixed mindset = “I’ll never get it”
Growth mindset = “I’ll ask for help, then practice”
